Study

Colleges & Applications

The most important part about choosing to study in Canada is selecting the right college and program. What you decide now will play a key role in shaping your life and career.

Levels of Study

Before you start researching schools and programs, it helps to understand the levels of post-secondary study in Canada:

  • Certificate Program — typically one year of full-time study, teaching a technical, vocational or professional set of skills.
  • Diploma Program — typically two years of full-time study, teaching hands-on skills in a specific technical, vocational or professional area.
  • Bachelor's Degree — typically three or four years of full-time study, often with a specialised focus area called a 'major.'
  • Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate — typically one or two years, providing further expertise and training after a bachelor’s degree.
  • Graduate Degree — a Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree (PhD) providing advanced-level education.

Cost of Study

For international students, tuition fees vary from province to province and institution to institution but are cheaper compared to other countries. Tuition in Canadian colleges and universities ranges from about CAD $7,000 to CAD $35,000 per year. When checking fees, look for the international-student rate.
