Become a PR through the CEC Program

If you have worked in Canada for more than a year, you may be eligible to become a permanent resident. The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is an immigration program for workers with Canadian work experience who wish to immigrate permanently.

What is the Canadian Experience Class?

The CEC is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents of Canada and have work experience in Canadian industries. It is managed under the Express Entry system and uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank candidates. Applicants with competitive CRS scores receive invitations to apply for permanent residence.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, a candidate must have at least 12 months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada. To count toward a CEC application, that experience must:

  • Be obtained in Canada within the 36 months prior to submitting the electronic Application for Permanent Residence.
  • Have duties that fall under NOC skill level 0, A or B.
  • Be lawfully obtained, paid work experience in Canada.

How to Apply

  • Get a Canadian work permit.
  • Complete 12 months of skilled work in Canada.
  • Take your language test and meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Create an Express Entry profile on the IRCC website and upload your supporting documents.
  • Complete a medical and police background check, then submit the e-application.

Good to know

Proof of funds is not a requirement of the CEC program — you will not be required to provide documentation regarding your finances.
