What is the Start-Up Visa?
Canada's Start-Up Visa program gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to immigrate to Canada to establish a new business. Immigrant entrepreneurs must demonstrate that their business is innovative, will create new jobs for Canadians, and can compete on a global scale.
Eligibility Criteria
- Have a qualifying business: you must hold at least 10% of the voting rights of the company, and together with the designated organization hold at least 50% of the voting rights.
- Have a letter of support from a designated organization (a venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator) after successfully pitching your business idea.
- Meet the language requirements (minimum CLB 5 in English or French).
- Have sufficient settlement funds to support yourself and your family.
Designated Organizations
Your business must be supported by a designated organization — a Government of Canada-approved venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator. Processing Time and Fees
Once your business is supported by a designated organization and your application package is complete, the Start-Up Visa application is submitted to IRCC. Government fees and processing times vary and are updated periodically — we will confirm the current fees and expected timeline for your case and help you prepare a complete application.
